Exposed book bindings with original designs.

One of my favourite past times is book binding. Since my introduction to it during my graduate program, I have enjoyed creating notebooks as a way to practice different book binding stitches and techniques. I find the history of book binding fascinating, the practice of it relaxing, and the opportunity for creativity endless.

I am in the process of learning and mastering various stitches and cover methods. I prefer to use my own designs I have previously created but will also use patterned paper or fabric for some bindings. My greatest inspiration comes from my love of historical period architecture. I have created book binding designs inspired by Gothic, Tudor, Georgian, and Islamic architecture. Stitches I have used so far have been the Saddle, Kettle, Coptic, French link, Long Stitch, Buttonhole Stitch, Dash and Bars, and a combination of the French Link and Coptic. I sell my work at Old Soul Design Shop Inc, a local business that supports local artisans, holds community events and live music, and sells craft beer.
